"Both
my new and old TOPS friends have always been there for me, and I thank
them all!"
“The day before
Thanksgiving 1992, I told myself I had to get some weight off. I phoned
my friend Lee to ask if she’d go to TOPS with me. By the time I finished
saying, “You can think about it,” she’d already said, “Yes!”"

"On December 2 we walked
into the meeting place of TOPS OR
0663, Springfield. There were 15 people in the room. We were really
scared, but they were really happy to see us.
I weighed in at 334.75
pounds. That day, I promised myself I would be 100 pounds lighter by the
following Christmas.
Walking was hard for me at that time, but I knew I needed to exercise.
Lee and I started going to a swimming pool four times per week (at 5:30
in the morning!) The pounds began to come off. I worked hard to lose
those 100 pounds by Christmas, but didn’t make it. I had, however, lost
99 pounds! I reached my 100-pound loss in January 1994.
I was diagnosed with cancer shortly after that. My TOPS friends helped
keep me going. I missed a few meetings, but stuck with it. After several
years, my health started getting bad again and I needed more help. My
daughter, Pat, encouraged me to move to Alaska to be closer to her. A
few years later, I did just that. Pat and I joined
TOPS AK 0150, Wasilla, in
September 2001.
I worked hard and, by September 2008, I reached my goal weight of 150
pounds with a total loss of 184.5 pounds. My size has gone from a 26 to
a 12. There have been many ups and downs, but I kept going to meetings.
Both my new and old TOPS friends have always been there for me, and I
thank them all!"
