DIY Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub
By Jeanette Hurt

Relaxation is essential to healthy living, and being calm can help you make better decisions. If you’re overworked or just a bit stressed out, pamper yourself with this yummy-smelling non-food reward made with ingredients from your pantry.
Here’s a balm to soften your rough edges—hands, feet and elbows—and it makes a perfect gift. Dress up the scrub by pouring it into 6-oz. Mason jars decorated with ribbon!
Makes about 1¼ cups, or enough for three 6-oz. jars.
Ingredients
- 1 c. brown sugar
- ½ c. olive or coconut oil (not vegetable or any frying-type oils)
- 4–5 t. vanilla extract
Directions
- In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar and oil until combined, but still crumbly-looking.
- Add vanilla extract, stirring in a teaspoon at a time. If, after 4–5 teaspoons, the fragrance isn’t vanilla-y enough for you, add another 1–2 teaspoons.
- For extra indulgence, add 5–10 drops of lavender or another flowery essential oil.
Note: As with any oil-based body product, always exercise caution when using in the bath or shower to avoid slips and falls. It makes the bathtub very slick!
