Nebraska, Lost 210.00 lb. with TOPS
"You will never find a program that recognizes your accomplishment the way TOPS honors our successes."
I spent my time helping others deal with their problems. Because of that, I never treated myself as a priority. It got to a point where it became impossible to ignore all the pounds anymore.
My journey has been really hard. I couldn’t walk well and I couldn’t turn over in bed. I was physically falling apart. But the biggest obstacle in my way was myself. I would look in a mirror and see a pleasant person with a nice smile. I didn’t want to face the fact that I was hosting a lot of issues that were beginning to have negative effects on my health.
I joined TOPS and knew this was the answer I was looking for. They offered friendship, support and compassion for me—even when I had a bad week. I would look forward to seeing my TOPS friends on Thursday evenings. Knowing what triggered my "out of control" desire to eat became really important.
In October 2016, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a partial mastectomy and went through 33 radiation treatments. All is well now, but had I not lost weight, who knows if the cancer would have taken over before I even found out I had it. I spent the next 18 months going through MRIs, scans and lab work to make sure the cancer was (for now) in remission.
TOPS has so much for those that want to be a part of a group that helps you in such special ways. I have true friends that have come from my TOPS chapter and we share a concern for our future and our health. You will never find a program that recognizes your accomplishment the way TOPS honors our successes.
