Wisconsin, Lost 203 lb. with TOPS
"Never give up on yourself and the belief that you can do it, and never give up on TOPS…it’s always there for us.”
I have been overweight all my life. Over the years, I have lost weight numerous times but was unable to keep it off. I developed Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, atrial fibrillation, and had my thyroid removed—all requiring many medications and doctor visits. These health issues were not enough to motivate me to lose weight. In 2003, things changed after hearing a radio interview of a husband and wife who were members of a TOPS chapter in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. Each of them had lost over 100 pounds. I checked the TOPS website and joined TOPS WI 0311 Big Bend.
Some of the most helpful habits throughout this journey that brought me here today are tracking all my food and exercise accomplishments each day with apps and journals. During these many years in TOPS, I have had many successes (and some backsliding) before I finally reached my goal. I am grateful for the wonderful support of Linda, my wife of 23 years, and thank her, along with my TOPS chapter for all the supportive members and meetings. My thanks also goes to the TOPS Field Staff and those at Headquarters, too. They never stopped believing in me, encouraging and supporting me throughout this journey. Never give up on yourself and the belief that you can do it, and never give up on TOPS…it’s always there for us.
You only get out of TOPS what you put into it. We can't guarantee weight loss just by attending meetings, but we can offer support through each stage of your weight-loss journey. Your results may vary.
