My weight-loss journey began when a motor vehicle accident left me with a disability. My mobility went downhill, depression set in and the weight poured on. My Aha moment eventually happened, and I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and get busy living my best life.

I started to expand my activities slowly and patiently by exercising in the local swimming pool and walking daily. At the same time, a support worker encouraged me to join TOPS. I was a little skeptical, but here I am today, still as motivated as the first day I stepped on the scale. I’m a numbers person so the scale is the best type of motivation for me.

Through TOPS, I learned that you have to monitor the foods you eat and stick close to your recommended calorie intake. I track what I eat on a spreadsheet as other methods did not work for me. I also brush my teeth after dinner, which stops me from snacking.

My life has changed so much! I’m happy and slowly getting my confidence back. I go hiking and no longer have sleep apnea. I love to walk in nature with my dog, which keeps me both healthy and grounded. I face my daily fears by leaning on my unbelievable support system and am willing to do things now I could never have imagined doing when I was overweight.

My advice to others is: You always have a choice in life. You can get busy dying or you can get busy living. We only have one life to live, so make the best of it!
