I was gaining more and more weight, and I was always tired. At 350 pounds, I was uncomfortable just getting out of bed and getting dressed. I joined TOPS in 2000 and started my weight-loss journey.
I joined a gym and became a "gym-rat." I bought an iPod, ear buds, a 24-ounce water bottle and gym clothes. I lifted weights and took yoga classes. I began drinking 100 ounces of water every day and avoided caffeine, alcohol, fruit juices and artificial sweeteners. My weekly weigh-in at my meetings motivated me to stay accountable to my healthy eating program which emphasized fresh vegetables, healthy fats, fresh fruits and limited animal protein.
Being active in my TOPS chapter helped me in my weight-loss journey. I have been Leader, Treasurer and Secretary. I studied each TOPS News magazine carefully to learn the stories of the successful winners of weight battles and they did to be successful. I am now 81-years old and I can easily walk a mile on a hilly road. Weight loss is far more than just a better appearance. Good health is priceless.
