2016 International Division Winners (Teen)

TOPS Success Stories > 2016 International Division Winners (Teen)

At the 2017 International Recognition Days event in Little Rock, Arkanas, TOPS honored the 2016 International Division Winners. These female and male members are recognized within divisions based on their age and the amount of weight lost during the calendar year 2016.

How TOPS Chooses Winners

Men and women compete within divisions based on age and weight lost during the calendar year. A little healthy competition usually provides extra motivation for our members. The greatest overall losses lead to recognition as International Division Winners. To learn more about how the division winners are selected, read our Divisions chart.

When I was in eighth grade, I remember being the biggest guy in school and nobody wanted me on their football team. I was tired of getting picked on and decided to make a change. During the summer, my best friend and I started running and working out. My TOPS chapter also helped me build a lot of confidence to lose weight. When I went back to school, people were shocked when they looked at me. They asked me how I lost so much weight in only two months. I told them it just took a lot of determination and confidence. I continue to work out during the school week and at home. Now, I’m more determined than ever to play football and be a lineman. I’m proud of who I’ve become in the past year.

Following my 40-pound weight loss in 2015, last year was a little bit easier. I continued my healthy eating habits and I took every chance I got to exercise. In November, I renewed my weight-loss journey as a vegetarian and still am to this day. This change in my diet allowed me to end the year with a loss of 35.4 pounds. The past two years have been the hardest, scariest and best years of my life. I’m grateful for the people in my life that have stayed with me through it all. I may look like a different person, but I still struggle with self-confidence. Every day is a struggle and a blessing. Someday I will confidently say, I will Keep Off Pounds Sensibly!”

Both my mother and grandmother introduced me to TOPS when I was young, and I officially joined at the age of 12. I have always been a big eater, but I gained weight much more quickly in high school. With the help of TOPS and summer marching band practice, I started losing weight right before my sophomore year. I became more motivated to stay active and keep fit. I am still in marching band, but also enjoy riding my longboard and bike with friends. I stay mindful of my food choices and try to make good decisions. When I finally used the tools TOPS gave me, the weight just dropped off. Life is sweet!
